The Watch Hill RI Engagement Session for Elaine and Nick!

2018-06-26_0013The day, warm, sunny with a light breeze off the ocean…. The horseshoe crabs getting their groove on along the shore of the bay and Elaine and Nick were all smiles and love.

2018-06-26_0003Watch Hill is a place that really means something to them, so when we started talking locations, it just seemed like a great fit. Plus, after the shoot it meant that I could go and chill with my good friend Taylor Swift, with wine on her patio overlooking the Atlantic. ( just sucks she wasn’t home… ) Anyway, we strolled along the bay side, then up and over the dunes to the ocean. Greeted by the waves rolling in and a perfect breeze. The main goal, create some fun images, share some love and have a good time. I believe that was accomplished across the board. (we just won’t talk about Nick getting all teary eye’d. He tried blaming it on the sun, I think he’s just that in love with Elaine that he couldn’t hold back)…

Anyway, the day was great, the session went great, the weather was great and their wedding day, will be… Without a doubt. Great! So next May, a little under a year away, at the Candlewood Inn, these two will be saying their I do’s, dancing their first dances, and starting their next chapter! For now though. Their love…….

The Hammonasset Engagement Session for Sarah and Bert

Hammonasset Engagement Session Photos Madison, CT Wedding Photographers TAB PhotographicWhat happens when you take a girl, and a guy, have them fall in love, decide to spend their lives together, dress them up and drop them at the beach? Well, this engagement session.

The evening, warm, wind swept clouds, sun setting, laughter, kissing and me and my cameras. In no specific order.

2017-09-26_0013I won’t lie, these two were on point, “dressed to the nines” and filled with such a great energy. If there’s one thing I can say when you come to your engagement session, follow the lead of these two and the session will rock. Get dressed for the moment, be willing to just be yourselves, kiss, laugh, love. Not to mention, Sarah had her hair and make up done which just adds to the session and Bert, even after a long day at work, let it all go and was all about being in the moment with the two of them.

From the first photo on, everything just worked. Walking toward the sun and the love was all there. Then I saw it, this rock, not the easiest to get up onto. I made a comment about it and with in seconds Bert was hoisting Sarah up onto it, heels, dress and all… These two were all in!!! From there, off the rock and down to the beach, the sand, the sun setting, the wind still flowing with her dress and these two, still smiling and loving the entire time.

All I’m getting at is that if you come to the session with your love, dressed for your love, in love…. We can make some good stuff happen.

The Hartford Engagement Session Fun For Melissa and Brendan – TAB Photographic Wedding Photographers

Engagement Session Tips Inspiration Hartford Wedding Photographers TAB PhotographicFrom the first second I heard from Melissa about her wedding, I knew that these two meant business. By that, I mean they totally dig each other. They’ve known each other for years, since high school. But it wasn’t love right from the start. Brendan used to knock Melissa’s books out of her arms and run down the hallways. Okay, there I go making up stories again. 😛 Really though, they’ve known each other for years and realized that they just needed to be with each other.

We booked everything thru e-mail (shoutout to Janet and Matt for sending these two my way) but when we first physically met, at the mall of all places (which was totally my idea) , I could see just how great these two are with each other. Their styles match and their energies seem to balance each other out. And I mean… They’re both chill and just kind souls.

Engagement Session Tips Inspiration Hartford Wedding Photographers TAB PhotographicAnyway, their engagement session… They were willing to pretty much roll with what ever I threw at them. And I had Brendan hooked from the second I mentioned the skate park. So we started at the CT State Capitol in downtown Hartford and got some great stuff. Then we made Brendan’s night and went down to the skate park. And hey, no one broke any bones either. Though Brendan did make sure he showed Melissa some of his moves. It was actually a great moment as he wanted to get this full grind on camera. (grind: the skateboard on a corner, not Brendan on Melissa) Truth be told, he couldn’t stick the landing (sorry for bringing that to light man), then shit got real and I said “If you don’t land it this time, the wedding is off”….. Feel all the pressure, Brendan jumps on his board, sweat rolling down his brow (because it was really flippin’ humid out, not because he was nervous), kicks up onto the ledge, grinding down, Melissa clapping, SLAM! He lands it like childsplay! That being said…………

The wedding is still on.

Enough of my rambling and non-sense. How about I just share a little video teaser and some photos???

From Ryan Montbleau to Wedding Photographer Needs

Lightbulb

This one night, my daughter Maya and I went to a concert. A Ryan Montbleau concert to be exact. A great time no doubt, but this one couple behind us, I felt like they were creeping on us. And I was sooo right because I got an e-mail from them the next day about being their photographer for their day…. Okay, sure, they didn’t know I who I was at the time, and when I said they were creeping on us, what I really mean is that we were chatting away as the concert went down and they were awesome. And I guess I should be totally honest, when I got their e-mail, and saw a new follower on my Instagram account (@tabphotographic) and saw that they were at the same concert the night before, I called them out on it and said “HEY! not only were my daughter and I there, we were right in front of you!!!

Anyway… That all really has nothing to do about their awesome engagement session.

2017-07-07_0014

The real story starts with the inter webs and well… Match.com because that’s how it all began. Something like this –> “Online, Match.com, he likes to say I had a few drinks one night and went on a winking bender, I just was tired of meeting the same people through my circle of friends. We then decided to meet for our first date at a brewery. Something about beers made us lighten the mood.” So it shouldn’t be any surprise that some of their favorite beer showed up at the engagement session as well! I mean, why not. Though they didn’t even bring enough for me, so I’m not sure how I feel about all that. (that’s a lie, they totally had a third beer, I just didn’t partake because, well, I don’t know why, I guess because I was stupid. haha)

2017-07-07_0004

We shot around the factory right in town, the weather was perfect, the laughs were great and we didn’t get poison ivy, bit by any snakes or attacked by any bobcats… That’s like a win-win-win… (future couples, don’t stress, those things don’t usually happen at all. Liz and Andrew, sorry about the poison ivy… ooops)…. Before hand, their thoughts were a bit lackluster, I mean, now she’s telling me they’re not fond of photos. So I am of course going to take that personally and it now means they’re not fond of me. hahahah  “A little nervous, I am not super fond of photos at times and I feel like posed pictures seem too forced at times, otherwise super excited” but after, well, it’s a good thing the shoot went well. Because the after thoughts of “Dave and I kept talking about how much fun we had and how excited we were to see the photos and to work with you on our wedding day. I think we still talk about how much fun we had – it was like having an old friend take photos of us – nothing felt posed or pressured.” are redeeming. So I guess we can all still be friends and I’ll still shoot their wedding, even if she’s calling me “old”…. haha

2017-07-07_0009

Really though, they’re just a fun loving couple who at times bicker like a married couple. Go figure. Their day at the Pond House Cafe will be an awesome one. Courtney fell in love with it and Dave’s a smart guy and agreed… From here, their wedding day vibes are coming with no nerves at all, but now that I have her thinking about it, some nerves… “Not really, I’m super excited about this next grand adventure. Now that I think about it, I am a little nervous to have the spotlight on me and have to play nice with people I may only slightly know. I want to be a gracious host but also have a kick ass time celebrating such a special day – so I’m nervous about balancing it all.”

2017-07-07_0001

So with the kick ass time looming, if they have any advice to give to couples about their engagement session, they shared the following.  “Have fun, live in the moment, trust the process and the photographer – be game on for anything, be less worried about having the perfect backdrop than to have your personality shine through- Tim did an awesome job of finding the backdrop (even some unconventional) that made our smiles and happiness shine through. Wear comfortable clothes that make you feel awesome but you aren’t afraid to get a little dirt on”… My take on all that is trust me as your photographer, but also know that there will be moments you’re going to question “what the heck is he doing”… You’re gonna get dirty but most of all, you’re going to have a good time… Sounds about right, yea?

So that’s about it for this one… Time to enjoy the rain and get ready for tomorrows wedding which will be here sooner than I know.

Topsmead Engagement Session for Phil and Evanica – Litchfield, Ct.

“who would know beautiful spots better than a photo demi-god?”  (Their words not mine…. haha)

Lightbulb

Topsmead Park Engagement Sessions PhotosI mean… You get pulled up onto the dance floor by your platonic date at your sisters wedding and the one who pulls you up says “I Love You…” Seriously, does it get any better than that? Because that’s how it happened for Phil… However, that all started long ago when they were in high school together and Phil was always trying to put the moves on Evanica but she played it cool. And now, this time… It’s their day. Their Love. Their wedding….

Topsmead Park Engagement Sessions PhotosSpeaking of their wedding day, it’s getting close things are falling into place and Evanica is playing that cool too, nerves??? “Nervous about the day? Not really. We know that there will be struggles and things that go wrong, but overall we are excited for our day of celebration; having a whole day that’s about us and our love for each other. Nervous about everything leading up to the day? Absolutely. Stress, organization, budgeting, bills, invitations, blah blah blah. The first 9 months of our engagement was cake, no pun intended, but the next 5 months are shaping up to be a pita.” I’m sure their day will be awesome because these two, they love each other with out a doubt! And you can see it when Phil’s eyes light up as he glances back as Evanica….

When it came to their engagement session, they surely have some thoughts. Pre session thoughts, well, actually pre-second session session thoughts… “We weren’t too sure about where we wanted to have the session. We had previously been out for a session with Tim but the weather turned out not to be in our favor (fun stuff like strong gusts and frigid temperatures) so we snapped a few shots for our save the dates but knew we would have to schedule another session when things were more temperate. Consequently our big trepidation was location. We had shot our save the date pics at Chaffinch Island State Park in Guilford, a lovely little spot, but I pushed hard to find a different location. She loves the water and we got some pictures there; I love land a bit more so I was looking for a picturesque wooded arena. We agreed to have Tim decide on a spot because well, who would know beautiful spots better than a photo demi-god? We had never been to Topsmead so we had some reticent feelings, but once we got to the location we were very happy with his decision, it was beautiful.”

Topsmead Park Engagement Sessions PhotosAnd then post session thoughts, one thing that I love about what they share is that it made them “feel” more. It brought them closer to their day and their togetherness…. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me. “We were very pleased with the location, and while we dont exactly have a photographer’s eye, we were confident that the pictures would come out excellent. Topsmead Park Engagement Sessions PhotosWe also had a little chat in the car ride home about how quick and easy taking pictures with Tim was. He allowed us to be ourselves and, while we laughed on the ride home at how unnatural it was to kiss on command and we sometimes weren’t doing natural kisses (no tongues for the pictures), the feeling of just being there for an engagement session knowing our wedding was coming up soon and being with each other and having Tim capture our love… it really felt special and amplified our feelings for each other.”

Anyway… If they have anything they want to share for future engagement sessions:

Hers: “wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking around on different types of earth finding a good spot for a pic. Also wear clothes that make you feel good; nothing that would make you feel self conscious or need to keep adjusting, be yourself because you want your pictures to represent you.”

His: “do, say, think, act, and feel whatever she and Tim want.”

Let’s just get onto some of the shots from their day… K…

Mary Rose & Kyle – The engagement session….

2017-04-26_0001“Not nearly as awkward as we had expected”…. That’s really all I could hope for. Okay, maybe not all I could hope for but really, I just want all of our moments as client / photographer to be fun and relaxing. So skipping out on the awkward is all good. I mean, I may say things a tad awkward, I may be a tad more awkward, but as long as the session isn’t….. It’s all good.

The engagement session was our first time meeting, which isn’t actually out of the norm. We met at the studio and ventured out locally as the green hadn’t started popping quite yet. I could sense that this was something new to them, as it should be, so we strolled… Laughed. The lighting was nice. It was a “soft” day with an overcast sky. Actually, I think about 3 minutes after we departed the rains came. So timing couldn’t have been better.

2017-04-26_0003When asked about their thoughts before the session, they were straight up with me… “We were a bit nervous, and did not know what to expect. We were excited about doing the session in Collinsville, though, since neither of us had been there before. It was a fun mini-adventure.” And they must get me, because yes, an adventure!!!! Lately that’s pretty much my goal. Taking everything as an adventure. Even when I’m shooting, it’s an adventure for me too! Each of our TAB couples, each location, each shoot, a new fresh and fun adventure!!!

From here, while Mary Rose is a tad nervous about the logistics of their day, they’re also VERY excited to be holding their days festivities at Choate Rosemary Hall. Hang on, HOW DID I JUST PICK UP ON THIS Mary Rose is getting married at Rosemary hall… <— See what I mean about being awkward with my thoughts and what I say. No filter no holding back. haha… Anyway, she’s got nothing to be nervous about. Families coming together and an awesome day ahead!!!!

In departing from this post, if Mary Rose and Kyle could share one thing, they nailed this on the head too. “I would recommend trying to have as much fun with it as possible, and try to be really present in the moment. We were sort of looking at the engagements session as practice for the wedding day, and since the amount of time taking photos on one of the biggest days of your life is not insignificant, it would be a shame not to have fun with it.”

Anyway… Thanks for reading, leave some love for them in the comments but either way. Enjoy your day!!! You deserve it!
