So there’s this place, The Connecticut River Valley Inn in Glastonbury, Ct… It’s one of those places, that you should want to get ready for your wedding in! Each room, beautiful set, the property so well taken care of. From their gardens to the shed to the field out back. The owners, while patiently waiting to head out on their boat for the afternoon, so welcoming.
I’ve been there before for an actual wedding and that was great, and for Bethany and Michael’s day, showing up at the Inn for Bethany’s getting ready moments and shots, was once again, great. Seriously, if you need somewhere to get ready for your wedding and Glastonbury is an option, check this place out!!!
Okay, enough about the Inn… Let’s chat about these two and their day. Their day that was blessed with some great summer weather, sunshine galore, warm temps and plenty of love…
They arrived to this place when Bethany did indeed say “YES!” to Michael’s proposal. That went something, yet not quite like this: “Tell me about the proposal, you say. Yes, it was beautiful and thoughtful. No, the helicopter ride was not directly involved. (It was simply a diversion.) Yes, there were hundreds of ducks flocking to feed on the path of rose petals. Yes, Michael’s parents kicked Bethany out of the car onto the curb. (The words used were, “get out.”) Yes, there was a photographer playing peekaboo from behind a tree and a future groomsman videoing from the cover of a bush. Yes, Bethany had no idea. Yes, it was ridiculously romantic and she said “Yes!””
Really, the energy that these two have is awesome. While we didn’t mean when they invited me into their day, we did get a chance to have some laughs and grab some awesome shots at their engagement session. Right from the start it was obvious that they both have such admiration for each other. And as the shoot wrapped up, it was also brought to my attention that Michael has such admiration for his Subaru Impreza…. (Come on Mike, I couldn’t let you down haha)…
Anyway, they love each other. And this year, it has been their ceremony which I have to rate as my top favorite. From friends and family providing some ceremony music, to the love that was talked about, to the tears of joy and appreciation, to Michaels face as Bethany walked down the aisle… It was surely one of my favorites!!!
They got here in a round about long distance way. I can promise that it wasn’t easy, but that makes marriage and love worth every step. Right??? For them, the long term round about ways went something like this, you decide how much is spot on??? haha. ” Michael and Bethany met backstage during intermission of a WV Symphony concert. Michael was preparing for a big audition and trying to stay focused, but while busing to an outreach concert, Michael spotted Bethany. The next day, instead of saying “hi”, he decided to hover backstage like a smitten school boy. So when Bethany introduced herself, Michael could not believe his luck! Even better, he knew Bethany was interested when she complimented him on the sparkly thread that ran through his tux shirt. That evening, Michael stalked Bethany on Facebook and asked her to watch a movie. After 38 seconds, the computer screen was shut and they spent the next three hours talking about music, performing, Jesus, family, travel, past, future- basically everything under the sun. The following day, Michael asked Bethany if he could give her a ride back to Pittsburgh. (Bethany had fortuitously caught a ride from Pittsburgh to WV due to car troubles and Michael had fortuitously scheduled a lesson in Pittsburgh for the next day.) Before making it back, they made a pit stop for dinner at Qdoba where Bethany began to realize that she was on a date. Michael subsequently had this same realization when instead of sitting across from him in a large booth, she chose to sit next to him. Michael recalls that she was inches from his face. Not wanting to give up the opportunity of a three hour car ride with Bethany, Michael drove to Ohio and endured his first full length Handel’s Messiah featuring his future wife on section second violin. Upon arriving home, a mortified Bethany remembered that she had “accidentally” left her phone in Michael’s car. Michael was more than happy to return it in exchange for a “real” hug.
The next day Bethany told Michael that she couldn’t have lunch with him, because she was sick. With plans to investigate if she truly was sick, Michael asked if he could stop by before leaving town. After four more hours of talking, Michael embarked on his nine hour journey to Boston. The next few weeks they texted non- stop and Bethany’s family became suspicious that Christmas after witnessing Bethany’s new phone habits. Soon after, Michael came to Pittsburgh for the weekend to get to know Bethany better. Their next date was two weeks in the Dominican Republic where they worked at a festival together. It was here, after many breakfast, lunch and dinner dates, and much hand holding and time spent sunning themselves, that they decided to commit to each other and see if marriage could be in the cards. Since then, the distance lovebirds have accrued a vast store of airline miles and they are well on their way to being in all 50 states together.”
It’s pretty right on. Now, while their story will grow, they do have some issues from the wedding they have to deal with. One, they seemed to have lost the top tier of their cake… If you see it, please contact me and we can mail it back to them… Two, Bethany’s father ripped the bumper off Michaels beloved car on the way to the ceremony… (Okay okay, that may not have happened but I tried to make Michael believe that it did…) Anyway…. While these two are still on their honeymoon in Greece, they will continue their adventure through life with love and god… I’m sure they will continue to tackle every day with their whole heart as they did every photo and I honestly wish them only the best as their incredible love guides them through each day, adventure and year…..
So for now, enjoy the photos below (from the getting ready, to first look with dad, to not first look – first look with the bride and groom, to their awesome ceremony, the bridal party, their bridal portraits to their awesome reception… Enjoy them!) , leave them some love in the comments and know that TAB Photographic captures weddings across the country and around the world working with couples needs, dreams and beliefs…
