Topsmead Engagement Session for Patrick and Melissa – Litchfield Ct.

Topsmead Engagement Session Posing Inspiration Ct. Wedding Photographers TAB PhotographicBeing a Ct. based travel and destination wedding photographer, it means I don’t get to personally meet all of my clients right from the start. What that means is that I am sometimes going into the engagement session “blind”…. The thoughts in my head – “do they enjoy having their photos taken?”, “are they camera shy or are they goofballs who will steal the show?”, “do they love, love? Will they be affectionate in a soft yet passionate way?”… Those thoughts continue on. And then the day comes and we meet…..

That’s pretty much how the engagement session for Patrick and Melissa went when we met early early on a weekend morning. Whoa… Back up… First they had to get there because they were lost in the Litchfield hills. Being stalked by a black bear and nearly attacked by a bobcat. Okay… Maybe there weren’t any bears or bob-cats. But there was a – how do we find the park because our GPS doesn’t like us…

Topsmead Engagement Session Posing Inspiration Ct. Wedding Photographers TAB PhotographicAnyway… There I am and here they come. Let’s do this. They jump out of the car and right from the start, there’s this awesome energy. Between them and all of us. The laughs, the sarcasm (I can be a bit sarcastic at times. haha)… The session rolled on as the sun rose up.

The gardens in full bloom, the grass tall and catching the sunlight and the poison ivy finding my legs. haha. From the chest bump to the bug finding it’s way into Patrick’s ear to the twirling and spinning wrapped up in the love these two have for each other…..

I guess, what I’m getting at here…….. This session, their session was a great way to spend the morning for sure and I can’t wait for their wedding!!!!

The Stonington Lighthouse & Love – By TAB Photographic

Stonington Lighthouse Wedding Affordable Ct. Wedding PhotographersSo this one day, I was sitting at my computer editing away when “DING”…. Another awesome request for another awesome wedding. Only thing, their wedding was about 6 weeks away or so. This is not the norm, I am generally booking up my days a year to two years and sometimes more, in advance… Anyway, I am reading the request and the first thing that struck me was the location. Stonington Lighthouse. My interests peaked, but it’s about 6 weeks away. There’s no way I’m actually available. 🙁

Stonington Lighthouse Wedding Affordable Ct. Wedding PhotographersBut then… OMG. I was available!!! I excitedly replied and began chatting with William and Matilde about their day and what they hoped for. Really, what they hoped for was awesome photography coverage of their day at an awesome location. Why the Stonington Lighthouse, not to mention how would they pull this off. Well, it’s where they have one of their homes. Literally, right at the lighthouse. To me, that meant even more because now it was the grass he grew up playing in. It was the house that they had a certain type of “fun” with doing their thing. haha… All in all, I was stoked and we put everything together and locked down the day.

2015-06-25_0016Of course I did however have to ask – “your wedding is weeks away, how do you not have a photographer?!?!?”… Well, between Matilde’s schooling, the crazy of planning and oh, did I mention needing a new green card for her. Things were beyond hectic.

The planning though, it obviously came together perfectly. The only thing that could have made it better is if I brushed up on my Italian so I could have chatted with more of the guests in their home country language. (By brushed up, I really mean learned some to begin with. haha)… The day was beautiful. The sky was blue. The nerves were calm. Laughter all over and the ocean rolling up on the shore.

2015-06-25_0035Walking into the tented wedding, the succulents paired with the lanterns and cleanly designed escort and menu cards. Breathtaking. And there’s something about farm-table style weddings. All the smiles side by side, the ability to lean into the person along side with a laugh and common connection. It was just beautiful… And if you ever wanted to top that off, well, it’s easier than you think. Load all your guests up onto a bus and transport them a few miles down the road to a farm with a wonderful barn, lights strung from the trees and a party ready to happen. Everyone dancing, even grandma smiling away and getting her boogie on… Gosh… What a way to wrap up the night, William and Matilde sharing a kiss in the dark field as the fog began to roll in for the evening…

And that’s just the condensed version of their day. You really had to be there is all I can say…..

As always, feel free to comment below and leave love for these two!

Coming in two weeks – the wedding for these two!

This is a quick tease to what will be an awesome wedding for these two!

Coming up in the early days of July will be the wonderful wedding for Kelly and Alex! Meeting these guys for the first time at their engagement session, as a photographer, we never know what to expect. Then they showed up and right from the start it was awesome! We started the shoot at a location they chose which was actually where Alex also proposed to Kelly. So right there, there was meaning and feelings.

From there, we went to an old abandoned piece of property I saw when I got off the highway and rocked the rest of the shoot out. All in all, it was a great early morning “to-do” and I can’t wait to rock out their wedding. Because it will, with out a doubt, be awesome!!!!

Till then, a few of their engagement photos will do.

Barm / Farm Engagement session and inspiration because this one rocked too!

A week in the life of….. An Open Letter

You know, some people see a successful photographer and they see our “party of a lifestyle” world. They see our photos, our travels, our good times and more. And I won’t lie… We do have our moments where we rock it out!

Thru that, while we surely love what we do, while we are blessed to be successful with the ability to take our passion and create a life. There is so much more. Last week, from Sunday to Sunday, I shot 4 weddings, 2 engagement sessions, booked two weddings, edited two weddings and 3 engagement sessions, drove about 500 miles, responded to at least 40 e-mails, did the laundry, dishes, got my daughter where she needed to go, drank lots of coffee, listened to tons of music, mowed the lawn, took out the trash, painted my upstairs hallway and believe it or not, even more. (I even showered)

And all that, that’s our reality, especially as a single parent 50% of the week. The reality is, we push, we push hard (harder than we even believe we can at times) and we thrive on accomplishing everything that lies on the mountain in front of us. When you see our “party life style” it’s because we simply love what we do. What you don’t see is how we collapse into the adirondack chair on the porch in dead silence trying to recharge while taking in the minutes as the sun sets in front of us…… Or how we will find a book and curl up into the smallest of balls sheltering ourselves from the world as we let go of everything in our minds and fall into a different world hidden in the pages…

This past week, roughly the past 10 days, is the hardest in every one of my years. You can read this post which I put on Facebook last week to know a bit more:

Remember these two men we tragically lost? For certain reasons, VERY CERTAIN REASONS, we need to always remember that everyone has a struggle of some sort in their life. Somewhere, on the surface or deep inside, a struggle. Much as these two awesome fucking individuals had. As bright as they were, as creative and skilled as they were. A struggle…

11406169_10153357963158665_6931891170251710933_oTomorrow marks an anniversary date for me to a really rough accident I had. It landed me in the trauma center where I was listed as a “john doe” for the first 10 hours of my stay there, in that time, I had no family. I had no one by my side. I didn’t even have myself…. That accident changed a LOT in my life. Both good and bad.

10 days after that accident I – as well as my sister, mother step mother and the rest of our family – lost my father…. (whom, for those of you that don’t know, was a professional photographer)…..

Needless to say, this stretch, every year is hard. Incredibly hard. Not to mention life as it is.

I’m an artist, deep inside, an artist. I feel things. And man, sometimes I feel them deep…. More than many, I would assume?

And most of you probably realize this.. I also know that I’m sooooo incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do with the passion that drives me day in and day out. Capturing weddings allows me to be who I am. To feel, to create, to capture. I won’t lie, come find me on a Monday after a double or triple header wedding weekend and you’ll most likely find me closed up in my house searching for any little piece of energy I can find to rebuild and recharge… But I’ll be searching because I put my all into what I do, for my couples and for myself… And I’m okay with that because I’m prepared for it…

As hard as it is, every year, every stretch, from a bit before 6/6 to a bit after 6/16, I get thru. I get thru because I have a network around me that understand who I am. As a person and individual.

I’m not writing this for myself, for attention, for this or for that…. I’m writing this because most of us, day in and day out, don’t know half the struggles that the person right next to us may be facing, going thru or trying to find a way out of. So be kind. Smile… Reach out.

Because darkness is a really fucking scary place….

10562576_10203314775127504_6744848613664302441_oAnd that brings me to this day, after realizing I have probably booked my June up non-stop on purpose with out it being “on purpose”. I have probably done so to stop my mind from having the time to think and feel every emotion that comes with these moments in the year… And now, today, the back end of this dark stretch marks the “anniversary” date of my fathers passing in 2006. Not many of you know, that I did, in fact, become a photographer because of my father. I never dreamed it’s what I would be doing, I never thought it would be my career, let alone be as successful as I am, yet here I sit. And I sit loving every minute of it and would thank him 100 times over if I could…

You see, I got back into photography simply as a way to keep that part of my father with me. And now, I can only hope with my highest of hopes – that, that incredible man is looking down on me with a wide smile and a giving me a pat on my back. ( That’s my dad, and that little dark haired kid, yea… That’s me )

Anyway… These weeks of non-stop are truly what our lives, at least 8 months out of the year consist of. Going non-stop, spending hours in our cars and in front of our computers. Shooting constantly, planning, staying on target and doing what we can to rock every moment of it out and loving every second of it!!! At least for me….

THANK YOUAnd the thing is, I do this for many reasons.

Inside, I’m sure one of those reasons is my father, but a couple other reasons are for each and every one of you… My clients. Because it’s receiving texts like “BLOWN AWAY – AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME” or “OMG…… I have no words but if I could get married again, every weekend, to have you work that magic – I would – I LOVE YOU – WE LOVE YOU!!! ” from brides and couples (both of which were also received this week) Or receiving thank you cards and little gifts from my couples like the one to the right…

It’s these things. It’s knowing the happiness that I bring to my couples. It’s creating pieces for them to remember and recall moments from. It’s these things that make the constant go, and the battle thru the “darker” days worth it…

And for that, while you guys are always thanking me, I THANK YOU… I don’t think a single one of you understands the fuel and energy you give me to not only keep pushing thru and creating and doing my best, but to get thru the days when I don’t want to push thru and no matter what, to continue to shine – day in and day out…

With every part of me… I thank you!!! THANK YOU!!!

I miss, love and thank you as well dad……..

Mystic Arts Center Wedding for Brianna and Scott by TAB Photographic

Mystic Arts Center Wedding Ct. Weddings Photographers TAB Photographic Affordable Unique The Best in Ct.So this wedding day came rolling along. It was a beautiful day with a soft sky for the day. And the day was going down in Mystic Ct. at the Mystic Arts Center. Which, I must say was pretty awesome. To be invited into a wedding day is always such a great treat and pleasure. To be surrounded by some incredible art while capturing all the incredible love was… You guessed it. Incredible. :p

Mystic Arts Center Wedding Ct. Weddings Photographers TAB Photographic Affordable Unique The Best in Ct.Anyway… Introducing Brianna and Scott, “We went to college together at Quinnipiac University, but we didn’t know each other, despite having many friends in common. I moved to Albany in 2004 for work, while Scott came to the Capital Region in 2011. The first people he met when he got to Albany were people I was friends with, and I recognized him. Due to our mutual love of the Red Sox & Patriots, we struck up a friendship. Our first date was to watch a Patriots game, and we never looked back.” Their first date to watch a Patriots game? That alone is a commitment. haha… From there, it really did turn into a whirlwind and this comfortable love wrapped these two up. And then, on a memorial day weekend, before heading to Maine to see Brianna’s family, Scott “popped the question”… Right in their home on a Wednesday evening. It was then that Brianna ran out of the house, running around screaming I can’t, I can’t!!!! Okay, maybe she said yes right then and there. haha…

Mystic Arts Center Wedding Ct. Weddings Photographers TAB Photographic Affordable Unique The Best in Ct.For the day, both of these two were pretty relaxed. I think, if I had to call it. Scott was probably more nervous. But not for the day, not for the details. Instead, to make sure that the day was everything Brianna wanted and deserved. To take away all the nerves though, we rocked out a first look. “Our first look was really special, and I’m so glad we did it. It helped calm both of us down so we could just relax and enjoy the ceremony.” It was actually pretty funny because I’m one for very intimate first looks. Just the bride and groom. This time was a bit different, by the time we did the first look, there was about 40-50 tourists from another country watching, hooting and hollering. So of course we needed to do a group shot with them.

Mystic Arts Center Wedding Ct. Weddings Photographers TAB Photographic Affordable Unique The Best in Ct.From there, we rocked out the rest of the day, bridal party shots and photos for Brianna and Scott all around Mystic. The ceremony, smooth and graceful, the reception a great fun party. If Brianna and Scott could have changed anything, it was the weather. The day was a bit chilly which had most of the cocktail hour end up inside. But all in all, it was a great wedding for sure.

As always, enjoy the cinematic slideshow and photos. And feel free to leave some love for these two in the comments below. Unless of course, you don’t love the couple. 😛

Someone with a great personality and sense of humor – someone we could feel comfortable with (and we totally got that!) We looked for a photographer who had pictures of couples who were clearly having fun!”

Anything else you want to say at all??: “Tim, thank you so much for being a part of our day! You were amazing to work with and made our day extra wonderful!!”

The Barns At Wesleyan Hills Wedding for Amber and Joe by TAB Photographic

2015-06-01_0001So there it was, an awesome freakin’ day. The weather was off the hook beautiful and these two! Really their entire bridal party was spectacular. I knew, going into the day that it was going to be a great one. And The Barns At Wesleyan Hills is a spectacular location. The willow trees, the barn itself, the outside possibilities for the ceremony. Across the board. This day would rock!!!

First Look Barns At Wesleyan Hills Wedding by TAB Photographic Destination Wedding PhotographersNow, take Amber and Joe, meeting at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. It was something that would surely grow… And that it did. With love and passion and a friendship like no other. Then…. There was this spot in Vt. which was their favorite get away and that’s where it happened… After Joe went and asked her family for her hand in marriage. “On the top of a mountain in VT over morning coffee where we now live and work but used to be our favorite getaway.” They got engaged.

Fast forward back to this awesome day. A day when their wedding would come together perfectly. Looking back, there were pieces that were more important than others. What it really came down to though for these two, was “keeping everyone happy”. That’s truly what was most important in their planning. And that shows who these two truly are and what’s most important to them as individuals. And they are full of kindness and love. On their day, one of the most important moments though Having some time alone for our first look and remembering what the day was truly about.”  And that first look, spectacularly awesome! We took full advantage of those moments and the timing of the day as a whole. Doing the first look opens up so much opportunity for awesome photos. Nothing is rushed and seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day, alone with out hundreds of eyeballs on you. Surely the way to go. Just ask me how to make your photos go smoothly and with time to make awesome happen and I’m happy to help!!!

Barns At Wesleyan Hills Wedding by TAB Photographic Destination Wedding PhotographersFrom there, the day continued to unfold, the ceremony was beautiful, the wine locked into the box for a future relaxing evening. The willow trees softly blowing in the breeze, the suns warmth going deep… Even as they made their kiss and walk down the aisle happen, now as husband and wife, it was done with a certain love and confidence that glows out of these two and prepares for their future together which they say will be spent “Continuing to grow and work towards our goals, personally and professionally.”

Anyway…. Enjoy the photos and the slideshow below. If you are interested in TAB shooting your wedding, hit the contact button above and wait for the page to load and send away. And don’t forget you can send them love in the comments below too.

Most of all, take on your day with a smile and make it as awesome as these two do!
