“My little one, come to me, trust in me, find me… walk up the dock and then follow the small flickering lights along the ground. I will be waiting for you, I love you, it is time………”

So every once in a while I find myself working some new fun into my photos. This week it’s been playing with “overlays”… What these are, well, they’re my doodles and drawings and more that I’ve drawn and used on top of my photos. And as I am starting to play with them, I’ve been thinking back to some of my favorite sessions and started to think about this one… This session right here. A rockin’ fun couple from Boston getting married in Portland Maine at the Portland Company. Anyway… I started to think about how their engagement session went and how it was a great one for sure. Especially because we really made it a story. And honestly, if all couples would allow this, I would be all over it!!!

You’ll see some Wes Anderson influences in my photos for one, because I LOVE WES ANDERSON and all his work and use it for inspiration all the time. And secondly, because the groom to be also loves all Wes’ work. So what do you say we get this story under way and I bring their 2013 engagement session back to life. (because yea, it was a great one and deserves to be featured now… So boom! There ya’ have it….

So the story went something like this…

Portland Company Wedding Portland Maine - Boston Engagement Session ideas inspiration by TAB Photographic - www.wedding-photographers.photographyThere was a boy… A boy who had this girl on his mind. He would daydream about their life together. How they could connect over the most serious and the most silly of topics. Her red hair and her bright smile…. How could he ever find her, and not just find her but hold onto her… Where would he go, where would she be, he sent her a private letter, with great plans, to get her to an island….

All those thoughts to the side, he knew he had to look his best. So he brushed his teeth. :p

And the girl, oh… She knew of him. She thought he too was pretty cool… And an island. “Why does he want me on an island??? Should I go? Should I stay? He is cute… He makes me laugh… And he may just be someone I really want to be with…”

They both got “done up”… They both headed out the door, hearts racing, hopes floating, dreams, well… Dreaming… A boat ride to an island, “how would I find him?” She thought? Are there wolves? Are their Yetis? Creatures that will want to chase me??? If there are, will he come to my rescue? (I’m sure he would have Roberta…)

So to the island they went… He waiting up on a hill, watching her voyage in and being sure that she was safe… She nervously feeling the wind in her hair, the boat rocking as she watched Boston slip further into the distance. “I sure hope he is there and knows I’m coming. I sure hope he thinks I look beautiful… I think I love this boy”…

The smiles abundant. The surprises and moments breath taking. He found her hand, and she his… They laughed, they walked, they smiled. They created memories and started to see that this “dream” wasn’t so much a dream as it was their future. And then… Then they found each others lips and the island became their whole world. They built a castle and walked the beaches every day. Hand in hand, the waves rolling into the shores and their future starting, right here, right then… On that island…

But Orion did ask Roberta to marry him. And he did arrange to have her boated out to an island under the darkness of night. She did watch Boston face off into the distance and he was waiting for her on a hill. Candle lit pathway, and he asked… And well… She said yes. 😉

And on New Years Eve – 2013 they got married at the Portland Company in Portland Maine. While it may have been freezing beyond belief, it still rocked!!!

2015-03-17_0004So this winter thing is DRAGGGGIIINNNNGGGG on here in New England. Our wedding season is beginning and normally, by now we have tulips poking their heads up thru the ground, the grass beginning to come back to life. The sun warming up the afternoons. But this year….. Oh gosh. This year we have NONE of that. We’re still fighting this cold air that DOES NOT seem to want to let it’s grasp of us go…. So this is my attempt to combat winters strong hold. I will do that by simply sharing one of, if not THE most beautiful backyard wedding I have ever been invited into. 2015-03-17_0009This wedding is one that I featured on my old site but never made it’s way here so why not share. We can bring back the memories of warmer days, fuller trees, brighter sunsets and so much more…

And this wedding, gosh, talk about the details and the moments. It was full of so many. The day for Toby and Fran was NOTHING short of spectacular!!!!

The family, the friends, everyone having a great time. And thru all the beauty, no one even ended up in the water. (I was actually surprised by this fact. Looking back, I can still remember each chandelier hanging, each candle lit, the taste of s’mores and how beautiful their first dance was with the sun slowly dropping behind the hills on the other side of the lake.

I will say this, for any couple wanting a back yard wedding, a barn wedding or the likes. Talk to these two because they knew how to pull it all together with beauty and grace….

And hey… Don’t forget to show this couple some more love down in the comments area below!!!

So for anyone following along on my site, you’ve realized posts have been slow lately. For about the past 6-8 weeks or so. That “slow” hasn’t had anything to do with not having photos to post. It’s actually almost the complete opposite because I do in deed have shoots to post, weddings to put out to the world and more. But…. Here’s the thing. As many of you get to “clock out” on Friday afternoon’s. As a professional photographer I don’t. I won’t lie, what I do is so incredibly rewarding. Being invited in to capture the moments and the love of so many couples. The flexibility to work my week schedule around my needs and travels. The excitement of creating and more. But. There are parts that, while still great, are tough at times. And that’s about 40 weeks out of the year. haha. It’s still all love, it’s still living in so many great moments. But those 40 weeks, those are like your Monday thru Friday. But my monday starts next week and my friday comes in late December early January.

Really, all I’m trying to say is that the past 6 weeks or so I’ve been laying low. Furthering my education more for this years weddings and getting ready to rock out, what will surely be, a spectacular season with so many awesome freakin’ couples!!!!

In the past 6 weeks, I’ve also been thinking about other things. Like my new studio and gallery that I recently renovated. That space will begin to showcase artists as well as my travel and landscape photography and more.

The other great thing about this year is that my year is booked solid and I already have a good handful of awesome 2016 weddings. Ya know, thinking about it, I’m not sure how many other individuals in their careers can say they have job security thru 2016… And that. That too makes me feel so incredibly lucky!!!

Anyway, all I’m getting at is that the past 6-8 weeks I’ve been laying low to recuperate, recharge, get my excitement stored up and to simply be…. But get ready… Because coming soon will be an explosion of awesome to my 2015 with all my awesome couples past and present.

Part two of this post – well, that’s today. Today it’s still winter, but it’s still raining and it’s foggy and it’s cold and it’s March and it’s dirty and it’s…… It’s so incredibly easy to go on about all the “it’s”… HOWEVER… While it is all those things… It’s also incredibly beautiful out. The softness of the landscape when it’s cloaked in this fog. The calmness. The stillness… Today I ran to the bank and took the long way back. Camera strapped into the drivers seat and these images are what came from that long loop home. All I’m really getting at here is that even in this dankness. Even on days when things aren’t looking so great, when the day is tougher than we anticipated or things don’t go as planned. There’s still so much beauty all around us, we just need to slow down and see it……
